alright glenn, will do my best.
opened up with...
ACOUSTIC Dear Lover! unreal. J2B, Mike, and Dan McGough... on the accordian! then they launched into acoustic Ring of Fire! Brent had the upright bass!!! i was so stoked.
man, the whole night was a blur--but it was unreal. new song--"can't take it with you when it's gone," atleast i think that's the name of the tune.
played a little bit of everything--the punk (MLM), blues (bye bye baby, king of fools), the country (this time darlin, 6 more miles), rock (making believe, sick boy, reach for the sky, followed by highway 101, and Far Behind). encore break, then came back with piano version of Prison Bound, Winners and Losers, and closed with Story of My Life.
let's see, other details. mike talked about King Tut ("you know, that dude aint looking too good. and he was one of the richest guys of his time. and now, he's nothing. so, the moral of the story is: you can't take it with you when you're gone.") he talked about the Anaheim resort ("welcome to the Anaheim Resort. you know, the water is about 20 miles south-- you can't have a resort without water!")
other intersting tidbits:
-mike had lyric sheets for this time darlin, and was mad at donny for not putting them where he could see them.
-he butchered the opening verse of Far Behind (sounded a lot like how it was played with alternate lyrics), but then he got into it and finished it well.
-Mike and Johnny would come up at the same time and make these cool poses while playing.
-A LOT of guitar switches. almost a new guitar in every song!
-Mike did about 3-4 jumps, so he's still got plenty of energy left! haha.
-At one point Donny came out to put lyrics on the floor, and mike waved him off and said they weren't doing that one. not sure which song it was.
-when introducing 6 more miles, he talked about watching a play he saw recently in laguna area about hank william's wife, so he played a song for Hank.
-the banner in the background had an arc of Social Distortion with roses and writing in the old english, and a picture of the '36 ford. very cool. stayed there the whole time.
-did not "do a song for dennis"
-did not bring kids on stage or do the usual banter
overall, if you're going to see them soon, i think you'll be in for a treat. looks as if they're doin some new stuff, and it's refreshing to see new material and risk taking by trying new instruments (upright bass, accordian). i wouldn't be surprised if there's a new album in the mix.
other experiences:
-tried to stay to get a setlist, was the last person out of the pit. the security guys told me and another guy that we had to leave.
-caught the 2nd rose he threw, and gave it to my fiance who was with me
-the crew that i was with (i was in the front/ middle) was real cool, but the people around us were jerks. one dude kept throwin himself up on top of people. finally, people threw him on to the ground and he cracked his head open. there was blood all over the place. i looked right at him and it looked to me as if he had a concussion--his eyes were glazed and rolling back. he went over the fence and 10 minutes later he was back in the pit.
-i don't recommend eating burgers at HoB before you go. had an upset stomach the whole time. my fiance also had an upset stomach due to her sandwich wrap thing. good food, just doesn't sit well, especially if you're standing for 3+ hours until social d takes the stage.
opening act:
Lee Rocker was incredible. only a 30 minute set, but man, was it cool. played mostly new songs off their new album (which i bought at the table when i left), including Black Cat Bone, Gone, Rebel, and a few more. excellent guitar playing, and great showmanship. [for those interested to know, i asked if Lee or anyone else from the band would be available to sign the CD. the guy at the table said, "oh, he went home." i asked where he lived, and the guy said Laguna. so, if you're in the
Laguna area, maybe you can see him cruising around.]
-Lee's upright bass was a satin black with red highlights on the edges--it was bad. His wardrobe matched, as he had black slacks, a red shirt and a black jacket, with black creepers. (maybe they need to play the song Black Slacks....the one from the 50's?)
-speaking of wardrobes, Mike came out in a black western jacket, no "bandit" style + black dickies pants. he took the jacket off after about 3 songs and had a black t-shirt (blank) the rest of the night until the encore. after the encore he had a standard BKK tank top (wife beater style). J2B had a brown western jacket top, and a white t-shirt under. Brent harding had a black shirt.
-Charlie was still sportin the long hair, but had a new drum set. no flames on this one; white with the bass drum having some vertical stripes.
-oh yeah, on stage they had a toy blue 40's truck with trailer and a light on behind it to make it stand out. no firestone sign (i thought for sure they'd have it).
-Merch: newer stuff. new shirts, tanks, etc. I saw a black sweatshirt with the front end of a chevy in the center, and it said Social Distortion in green. i said--hey, that's gotta be brand new. he said, "yep, we received it today." no vinyl was being sold (picture discs), or dice either (That's what i was hoping to get). they are definetely playing up the "greatest hits" as most of the clothing had the skelli in the cross-hairs or something like it. there was a new t-shirt with another kustom on it, a silhouette of a chevy bel air and the social d logo above it. a new white tank top (for girls) with a pin-up on it, and a pink tank with social d graphics (i only remember those b/c my fiance was saying she liked 'em.)
ok Glenn, i think that just about sums it up; the songs are out of order but i think thats pretty much everything they played. hope this helps answer your question! it's quite lengthy! haha.

Yeah, I was there tonight. the old school honky tonk version of ring of fire with Johnny and Mike on acoustic, Brent on the upright bass, and Danny on accordian was awesome. Dear Love acoustic was awesome too.
Speaking about forgetting the lyrics, I noticed that too about Far Behind, but did anybody see mike completely forget the whole first verse to Story of My life? It was so fucking funny; he started singing and immediately starding combining the second verse with the first verse and you can see the confused look on his face. By the end of the 1st verse, Mike was absolutely just mumbling pig latin and Johnny was looking over at him and for half the song, Mike was holding back a smile cuz he knew we were all singing along and he forgot.
They played in no particular order:
Dear Lover(acoustic)
Ring of Fire(acoustic)
6 More miles
Making believe
king of fools
bye bye baby
MLM
Prison bound
Sick Boys (with a cool, bluesy Outro)
Story of my life
Far Behind
winners and losers
You cant take it with you (when your gone)
This time Darlin
Highway 101
Reach for the Sky
By the way, the new song absolutely rocked. Several guitar solos and a piano solo. It was really fast and heavy. Loved it.

i thought there was something strange! it was hard to watch SOML as at that time, people were climbing all over us. but when i had the chance to watch, it seemed like something was different, but i thought it was just me. now that you mention it, it makes sense though.
did anyone record this show tonight?!?

Glenn,
i don't think charlie came out until 6 more miles.
as far as back vocals, the chorus goes something like,
Mike: Caaan't take it with you!
J2B + BH:.....Can't take it with you!
it's a great tune, and it sounded fully polished. what i mean, is that the lyrics were complete (compared to other new songs when mike might stumble through the verses).
